And we'll walk down the avenue again, and we'll sing all the songs from way back when
As a twenty-one year old American college student, I suppose there are a great many followers who have a longer acquaintence to the music of Van Morrison. Nevertheless, I consider myself a worthy Van guru; my first listening experience was the Irish Heartbeat album at the age of seven. And I never looked back. After collecting all the commercial and bootlegged albums I could get my hands on, I was able to convince my father to embark with me on a six hour roadtrip to see "Van the Man" in concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. While the concert was a letdown by Van's standards, it did whet my appetite for what would eventually develop into a full blown musical obsession. Every time since 2001 that Van has made the pilgrimage to the States for his biannual mini-tour, I have thrown the money down. I've made it happen. And when I flew to Atlanta this past April for Van's performance at the Chastain Park Amphitheater, I dragged my younger sister along... passing the passion on to a younger generation, as if it were my duty to do so.
As far as this blog is concerned, the most important detail about myself has already been divulged. Some other biographical bits about myself: I am a twenty-one year old English major at Virginia Tech. I was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, and I have a younger sister who is still in high school. My father's heritage traces back to Ireland, and my mother's is unknown to me, as she was adopted at a very young age. Aside from music, my other interests are film, writing of all sorts, boating, and aviation.
